    Abstract

This project will assess this as well as how effectively new developments can incorporate the historical buildings on a site looking at the sites of Gunwharf Quays, in Portsmouth, and Royal Clarence Yard, in Gosport, in particular. This will be completed by looking at development plans from the local councils and developers view points, assessing how the local community was considered in the developments and look at how new and historic buildings can or possibly not complement each other. I will talk to Gosport Borough Council, Portsmouth City Council, Gosport Society, Portsmouth Society and Berkeley Homes to seek their views, ideas and conflicting analysis of both Royal Clarence Yard and Gunwharf Quays. I will hopefully find out whether Gosport Borough Council and Berkeley’s always saw eye to eye and/or whether Portsmouth City Council would listen to the views of the Portsmouth Society.
