    Abstract

The twenty-first Century is obsessed with the latest technology and ever growing popular digital devices. Keeping a paper based visual diary during the creative process can be extremely important however; it is no surprise that there is concern for its popularity and status as technology continues to grow. This combined final project will use primary and secondary, qualitative and quantitative, interviews and questionnaires to investigate this concern further. Answering questions such as, what is the definition for a contemporary visual diary? And what is the relationship like between visual diaries and technology? Not only does this combined final project aim to achieve these objectives; it will also use this advanced technology to produce a thirty to forty-five minute documentary to investigate this subject area further with a unique twist, it will also experience using a paper based visual diary and a digital visual diary to test which one helps more during this creative process. Advanced filming and editing equipment will be used to follow out this final objective. Once completed a written evaluation will be produced; critically analysing the subject area further and the creative process undertaken. The main findings for this combined final project were the definition for a visual diary is indefinable as the term could mean something different to each individual; there are no right or wrong answers. Also the status of importance for paper based visual diaries still remains for now but as technology continues to grow this could all change.
