    Abstract

This research project investigates the impacts of Portsmouth Harbour Regenerations and its affects on new housing developments on the surrounding areas of Portsea and Old Portsmouth, to establish whether residents have benefitted from recent change. Through the use of multiple methods of data collection, including sampling, questionnaires and interviews, a combination of methods strengthen the validity of the research outcome as well as increasing the potential to know more about a phenomenon. The project identifies opinions and issues which have been experienced as a result of changing urban culture and gentrification. Research findings indicate that the residents of Portsea and Old Portsmouth share mixed views on the success and benefits drawn from the regeneration of Portsmouth Harbour and the development of Gunwharf Quays. In general it became clear that the majority of residents in Portsea are not in favour of the construction of modern luxury housing developments, however those from Old Portsmouth feel the gain more benefits with little disruption.
