    Abstract

Sea levels are rising, increasing the threat to waterside developments. This project determines how rising sea levels have been taken into account by waterside developments and focuses on two case studies: Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth and Brighton Marina. An extensive literature review and data collection exercise, including questionnaires and interviews of stakeholders of waterside development projects, made it possible to ascertain the infrastructure put in place to protect against sea level rise. The project concludes that through planning policy and effective coastal management, sea defences are being produced and maintained at the required standard. Additionally, all new and existing developments, such as the two case studies, must adhere to the relevant development guidelines governing their location.
