    Abstract

This dissertation seeks to determine the extent to which selected themes within the Murder Investigation Manual(MIM)are applied by the Royal Military Police when investigating operational deaths and major crime within Afghanistan and Iraq, highlight what difficulties and challenges are experienced in transposing the theoretical principles and guidance of specified themes contained within the MIM to an operational setting and explain how non-compliance of the MIM is justified and identify the implications, if any, should the manual not be followed.
