    Abstract

This study is a critical evaluation of the effect that the DASH (2009) risk identification, assessment and management model has had on the Policing of domestic abuse in Sussex and Hampshire Police Force areas.

The research consisted of questionnaires and semi structured interviews with officers from both Sussex and Hampshire Police Force with respect to their different levels of ranks, experience and knowledge of the DASH system. An evaluation of the answers from selected questions identified some possible gaps in the system that may need refining. This would allow frontline officers in particular, to expand on their working knowledge and understanding of how the risk factors connected to domestic abuse on the DASH checklist assists in fulfilling the models true potential in regards to risk assessment and the management of those risks to maximise victim safety.
