    Abstract

Sport in general and football in particular is still seen to be a male domain both on and off the pitch. This study is based on examining if women working within football in some capacity are underrepresented by the media. Firstly, it looks at the research that has been carried out in this area and other related subjects. It then examines the women who are working in the sports media as well as those who have found work with football institutions, either in a team, organisation or as a match official. A comparison is undertaken between the differences in how women's football is viewed in the United States and the UK. Through examining British newspapers, this study shows that although there have been strides forward by women in this area, there is still more to be done to bring women involved in football to the fore.
