    Abstract

This goal of this project was to produce a working offline prototype of an Industrial Placement portal to be used by the School of Computing. The client, Alex Bennett, wants this portal to be the collaborative point for Students and Academics to complete and manage their Industrial Placement related activities. This portal was designed to receive information from the users as well as displaying stored information in databases.

The initial requirements were discussed with the client and then documented in the project write-up.

A literature review was conducted to evaluate the strengths of existing techniques and to identify the key characteristics of successful placement portals. These characteristics were then considered during the design stages of the project.

A bespoke Software Development Methodology was created and then applied to the Design and Implementation stage of the project. The artefact was constructed using an iterative approach, adding the required functionality in a bottom-up approach to development.

In conclusion, a working offline prototype was produced for the client to be used as a platform for further development.
