    Abstract

    An exploration into the subject of games audio with specific focus upon the potential practical and aesthetic advantages of implementing surround sound in games. Through research drawn from secondary sources upon the roles of each aspect of the soundscape, the technological advancements in games audio hardware and the benefits and limitations of surround sound in games, coupled with practical testing into effective implementation of surround sound in games through exposing candidates to a variety of games presented in different perspectives experiencing the soundscape using a 5.1 format surround sound headset, the final assessment is made as to whether surround sound may offer an enhanced overall gameplay experience over other audio formats.
