    Abstract

With the decline of the Japanese games indsutry, I aim to find out what is causing western gamers to shy away from Japanese games. The process involves two phases of qualitative research during which I first interview western gamers to identify the key problems with Japanese games in order to create a focus for the remainder of the study. I then interview Japanese games developers to further my understanding of these topics and gain an understanding from the perspective of the developers themselves.
The study concludes with an analysis of the core elements that a western gamer desires and what approach could be taken to improve sales in western nations.
