    Abstract

The temperature, wind speed and wind direction variations, dynamics and general characteristics of the atmospheric boundary layer are investigated for the region surrounding a lake in Northern Fennoscandia. Primary data was collected manually and by proxy and is statistically analysed and presented graphically and spatially. Following extensive analysis it was discovered that the lake had a significant effect on the local meteorological characteristics when the synoptic conditions were anticyclonic. A small daytime lake breeze was discovered and it was considered that a temperature variation of at least >1oC per 100m was required for a significant circulation to be set up. Ideas and suggestions for further investigation are presented and discussed.
