    Abstract

The project aims to research and implement software for creating mind maps, including both a Java desktop application and AJAX web front-end. It should be highly user friendly and store the data in industry-standard XML format. For users, it provides functionality to attach files, images and text to the mind map as well as different colours and linking lines. Research is performed into areas of project management and software lifecycles as well as current papers addressing the issue of document storage and retrieval. This is coupled with a discussion of commercial software already demonstrating similar functionality to that here. Issues addressed include choice of programming language, difficulties implementing an AJAX front-end and storage of binary files in XML format. This report also looks into the solutions to presenting an 'application' interface via a web browser.
