    Abstract

    This dissertation will discuss the influence that cinema has had on the video game industry. The study investigates the origin and history of video game music in addition to discussing the modern products of the video game industry and how they compare to cinema. The research acquired was secondary, in the form of books, Internet blogs, films and video games, however an experiment was carried out to strengthen the research of the study. The creation of an artefact was required to assist with the experiment. The artefact consisted of the creation of arguably cinematic music and sound effects for a video clip from a modern video game. The artefact and experiment’s purpose was to determine the benefits of cinematic soundtracks within the video game industry. From the information gathered from the various sources in addition to the artefact, this study determines the effect that film music has had on the creation and development of video game music.
