    There are many different types of in-school interventions which help to address various challenging behaviour of children. The author decided to produce a literature review to analyse three of these: nurture groups, behaviour improvement programmes and behaviour and education support teams.

    This document begins by introducing intervention by explaining what it is and why it is needed. The three interventions are then explored using secondary research to discover their aims and how effective these are in improving behaviour in school and if these are cost-effective. Each intervention has it own strengths and addresses behaviour in a different way, however they can all be criticised for giving more attention and spending more money on those who misbehave, instead of giving more support to all children. Important legislation relating to the introduction and conduct within the interventions has been highlighted to establish their basis in law. Each intervention draws on child development theories such as Bowlby’s attachment theory and Bandura’s social learning theory and these have been discussed, among others, in detail. Roger’s humanistic approach has also been discussed to identify important values that would aid the implementation of such intervention; these coincide with the values of social work practice. This document then concludes by making recommendations for further research to establish more thoroughly the effectiveness of these interventions while also recommending the introduction of new training for teachers on the basis of nurture groups.
