    Abstract

The report presents the findings of a case file review of 2295 start assets from the Regional Youth Offending Team, looking at the presentation rate of young persons with ADHD. A spreadsheet of all the Case files was analysed, the initial investigation was to discover the exact number of young persons having a diagnosis of ADHD. The two specific sections of the Asset analysed were the Education (school age) and the Training and Employment section. Each Column on the spread sheet was word searched for ADHD/adhd and revealed 106 personal files of young persons who had mention of ADHD. A thorough individual review of each personal file was then undertaken to ascertain credibility and validity of any ADHD diagnosis. The results showed that there was not a higher percentage of young persons with AHDH within the YOT when compared to the general population. The recommendations of the study were to implement and make changes to the format of the ASSET assessment tool currently being used within the Regional/National Youth Offending Team, to allow for the systematic and specific recording of any ADHD diagnosis and help improve monitoring and recording of ADHD.
