    Abstract

There have been many studies worldwide of beach profile data, and this independent study aims to analyse such data for Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight. The National Rivers Authority conduct an annual aerial survey of the south coast of Britain from which beach profile data it extracted. This data will be used to study both spatial and temporal changes in beach profile shape and volume that occurred between 1990 and 1999 along the length of Sandown Bay. Similar studies, and others relating to the general topic of beach profiles are briefly described, as is the background and history of the area being examined. The analysis package BMAP is used to analyse and plot the beach profile data, and descriptive reports on the spatial, temporal, and volumetric changes that Sandown Bay has experienced are provided.
