    Abstract

The main focus point in this dissertation will be to discuss how the 2012 London Olympic ceremony promoted national identity, primarily concentrating on the ceremonies television presentation. Additionally I will be examining the effects that cultural globalization has had on Western society. I will also be addressing how the 2012 Olympic ceremony played a role in resisting threats to national identification, that have arisen in the modern world through cultural globalization. Before I address ideas surrounding the impacts of cultural globalization, I will provide an analysis of Danny Boyle’s opening ceremony, moreover, I will be looking into the frameworks of the Olympics as a media event, and how they are effective in promoting a collective national identity.
