    Road networks in many towns and cities are overcrowded due to the steep rise in car ownership and dependency in recent time, along with the fact that many areas can’t build the necessary infrastructure due to the limited space available. When this happens, road space reallocation is needed to shift priority to serve other modes of transport, to encourage more sustainable methods of travelling, and to make the most of the space available.
    The aim of the project was to determine the concepts and importance of road space reallocation by reviewing international literature and different policies on the subject. A questionnaire survey was conducted using members of the local community to understand their opinions of what travel improvements are needed to the current road conditions of the study area. This created a list of best practices, with help from the literature review.
    The results from the literature review and questionnaire led to a case study design using road space reallocation. This plan was then presented to an expert panel of the topic area, which confirmed that it was a valid plan with lots of benefits to the area, however, they also made comments about how to improve the plan, which then led to a redesign of the case study plan.
    The conclusion confirmed that road space reallocation can be used in various ways to create an area that is cycle and pedestrian friendly, where motor vehicles are not necessary and applies to the local transport plan.
