    Abstract

    This dissertation has investigated the evolution of how YouTube has managed to become the world's leading video sharing site and the fundamental reasons in why individuals have seemed to find global fame online. This dissertation has addressed the platforms history, the technology advancements, the rise in popularity of the site, marketing of YouTube and channels, the positive and negative side of comments, how advertisements have helped YouTube and its users, the current issues with the site, how multi-channel networks have changed the way to global fame, the rise in popularity of YouTube stars by producing quality content and its video sharing competitors. The conclusion has led to help define why YouTube has achieved what it has and why individuals have managed to achieve this global fame.
