    Abstract

    The aim of this project is to research the function of audio in video games and how audio can be used effectively in a gaming environment in relation to acoustic ecology. This paper will discuss some of the key moments in the history of video games as well as some more recent points. The function of audio in both film and game will be discussed in detail and will draw comparisons between the film and game industry. Finally, the acoustic ecology in four different video games will be researched using a text based methodology to see how sound can be used as a core aspect of gameplay.
