    Abstract

Although there have been many strides made in the progression and effectiveness of mental health services, there continues to be a pervasive set of barriers limiting the level of success in assisting those members of black and minority ethnic groups that have been diagnosed with a mental disorder. The overarching aim of the research is to explore the barriers to help-seeking for black and minority ethnic groups in the United Kingdom who have an episode of mental illness. Four reoccurring themes have been identified from the literature review, which has been discussed by the author.
