    Abstract

This final year project investigates recording a full drum kit whilst minimising costs, by evaluating different microphones and techniques against one another, and using surveys to validate the results and conclusions drawn. Throughout the project, various factors such as microphone types, frequency responses, microphone placements and microphone configurations have been evaluated to create a guide to achieve the highest quality drum recordings possible, whilst keeping costs at a minimum.
By recording numerous audio clips evaluating different microphones and techniques against one another, and using carefully designed surveys to assess public opinion whilst keeping objectivity and opinion at a minimum, it was possible to draw successful conclusions as to the best methods to approach recording a full drum kit whilst on a budget. However, as with any recording, there is no one correct answer, so the results of this investigation are intended to be a guide rather than a set formula for recording a full drum kit whilst minimising costs.
