    Abstract

    This study is analysing the latest trend ‘Social Television’ and its affects on their audiences. Investigating each element of ‘Social Television’, what is impacting the audience experiences, looking at both commercial television and university channels in how they demonstrate this, with participants from ITV and Channel 4 contributing their opinions. This project does this by outlining key elements of ‘Social Television’ such as the ‘backchannel’, ‘two-screen experience’ and ‘social media’. A survey has been conducted to assess what the impact of ‘Social Television’ is on the audience, by questioning in what method is social media being expended for and whether the audiences are combining both. All results from the survey and interviews conducted by the participants will be analysed, collecting clear themes and opinions to weigh up in order to answer whether the impact is positive trend and what will determine its future.
