    Abstract

This project aims to find key production characteristics associated with the Post-Rock genre through manual and software analysis of singles released by Icelandic Post-Rock band Sigur Rós. The analysis will be looking in particular at stereo placement, frequency activity, dynamic range and equipment used during the recording and mixing process. In addition to this the foundations of Post-Rock are examined for musical characteristics and the evolution of Sigur Rós's albums due to a combination of their compositional techniques and the collaborative work with their producer. The results found that Sigur Rós has had an influence on dynamic layering, using different genres as an foundation of arrangement and additionally increased the accessibility of the genre due to their use of a verse-chorus structure which is unusual in Post-Rock.
