    Abstract

This project looks into the advantages and barriers of social media. This is with the purpose of finding out if small companies are or are not using social media and how this helps or hinders their business processes. The literature review has concluded that social media is vitally important and can be used in many ways for multiple advantages. This includes improved customer relationships and an increase in digital marketing. There are obviously barriers too which include negative wide spread feedback. Primary research has concluded that small companies seem to use social media, however, knowledge to do so is lacking. Therefore, to conclude the study, it has been found that there are huge amounts of benefits to social media, while there are some barriers which need to be mitigated. There is a need for education to ensure that small companies have the correct understanding of how to use social media to their advantage.
