    Abstract

    Friction ridge marks, used for identification purposes for hundreds of years, are one of the most valuable types of forensic evidence in modern times. While there has been considerable research conducted for improving current techniques for fingermark identification and enhancement, there is very little literature available that assesses the capabilities of the Thermal Fingerprint Developer-2 (TFD-2), manufactured by Foster + Freeman. This study conducts a scientific experiment to establish the effectiveness of the TFD-2 on normal office paper, allowing a more comprehensive understanding of this method and any possible operational applications.
