    Abstract

    This research report focused on the factors which contribute to the development of anorexia. The aim of this report was to concentrate on the socio-cultural influence and the contributing psychological factors. The author conducted a literature search using a systematic approach and analysed all data found by using the TAPUPAS tool, then the thematic analysis method. This lead the author to key themes in her findings these were: Theme 1- The contribution that culture and society plays alongside media in an individual developing anorexia and Theme 2- Psychological factors of anorexia. The literature found was mainly qualitative data and lots of examples of the voice of the individual were found. The author then further analyses these themes in her discuss. Finally the author then link the findings from this literature review to social work practice. Recommendations were then made on how professionals can improve the outcome for individuals who develop anorexia.
