    Abstract

    Sustainable development is on the rise in 2015 in the United Kingdom and beyond, to achieve an eco-friendly project. Improvements in design must be looked at for this to occur. This report aims to find possible improvements to sustainable design by looking at the use of the Eldon Building at the University of Portsmouth. Looking at thermal energy recorded as temperature on small data loggers placed around the newly built west wing for one year. This data can be compared to that of a computer model produced on the Integrated Environmental Solutions Virtual Environment software. A connection between design and actual use can be made from the two. The temperatures do not match up so the building is performing not as expected from a design software. Limitations can be concluded and improvements worked out. This report aims to better the connection between architects, engineers and users, aiming towards improving sustainability of educational buildings.
