    Abstract

This dissertation describes research into the culture of resident Data Centre (DC) contract Security Officers (SO’s) working in an organisation operating with partner companies and a matrix management.
Existing research into private Security (PS) and relevant recent research into SO’s in the UK and abroad including observations on ethnology, behaviour, and culture is discussed. The reasons are given for deciding on semi-structured interviews as a method of research. Memory function and how event recall is affected is described. Interview evidence from eight participating SO’s is described, including participant ethnology, reasons for becoming SO’s, thoughts on SIA licensing, and on their work and stresses of operating in the DC environment.
