    Abstract

Within the realms of this dissertation the discussion of the Public Service Broadcaster and provider in Britain will be discussed. There will be an analysis of the current television set top box providers, online television catch-up services and online news providers. The discussion will portray that the PSB does not provide the most prominent services in Britain and that their quality has decreased during previous years. It will be argued that this is due to the spending cuts that the BBC have had to endure, and therefore it is not possible for the service to retain their prominence in Britain. Therefore the BBC are not able to provide a high quality service, that is expected from the British public.
The evidence for the dissertation will be taken from a number of official reports, which provide the background knowledge and diagrams to enhance the argument that the shifts in public service provision and competition from commercial broadcasters coupled with the growth delivery platforms has had an impact of PS broadcasting to maintain prominence.
