    This dissertation reviews the current criminal climate in South Korea. Recorded crime data from the Korean National Police Agency and the Supreme Prosecutors Office is used to highlight the alarming rise in crime over the last decade. The research focuses on the political system and the National police and penal reform to explain the recent trend in recorded crime data. Some irregularities were found between the two set of data official government that cant be explained without further research. However, the research concludes that the country is experiencing a Korean crime wave that does not seem to be losing momentum.
