    This dissertation describes the procedure and the factors influencing the safe and economical design of anchored retaining walls. The modelling-analysis and design of four soldier beam and lagging anchored retaining walls has been performed. All necessary data and information used for the performance of the modelling-analysis and design were taken from a past real case study concerning the temporary bracing of a proposed excavated basement. The modelling and analyses were performed using the software program LARIX 4 (GJS) CUMBUS-ZURICH-SWITZERLAND-VERSION 2.24-2004. The analysis and design outcomes are presented, discussed and compared to the actual results. design results show that soil strength parameters and depth of the excavation are the most important factor affecting the design of an anchored retaining wall. In addition, it also proved through the document that anchored retaining wall design demands specialized geotechnical knowledge and experience.
