    Abstract

    This project compared a shear design rules, particularly for prestressed concrete beams using British Standard BS5400 Part 4 and Eurocode EN 1992 Part 2. The literature review consists of wide aspects of the history of prestressed concrete, prestressed materials properties, adequate code of practice and relevant shear rules used in British Standard BS5400 Part 4 and Eurocode EN 1992 Part 2. A detailed numerical check has been carried out for the same beam with two different approaches. The aim of the detailed design was to identify the difference in shear rules for prestressed concrete beam design. Individual codes were compared against each other to understand the codes more clearly and reason for the differences. Comparisons of both the rules are summarised in the conclusion
