    Abstract

My dissertation focuses on the traditional archetype of the femme fatale in noir as subverted in my creative artefact ‘The Little Death.’ My aim is to seek to prove that the archetype of femme fatale in noir is reductive because it limits her to sexual objectification and to narrative manipulation as a destructive force. My method was to interrogate primary sources, classic texts of noir fiction and film, and through the study of a wide array of secondary resources as provided by various critics and their analysis. My aim is to show that my creative pieces offers the femme fatale the possibility of literary transcendence, of escaping her confined and confiding traditional role in noir.
