    Abstract

This dissertation will aim to investigate the narrative of resistance through popular music and the media event. It will use a range of critical theories and opinions to do so, drawing from various sources of study – of which include popular music theory, sociology and cultural studies. It is through the consideration of historical, political and social context, that this project will firstly discuss the relationship between popular music, resistance and the media event during the 1960’s. The same will then be discussed in relation to the music festival as a contemporary media event in order to determine whether narratives of resistance can continue to exist within today’s society.
