    Abstract

    Academic opinion has been divided when considering the definition of community, and, online community - specifically within regard to the validity of virtual community. This paper purposes to evaluate academic literature and consider the viewpoints regarding virtual community. It shall question how our understanding of community has changed with the advent of online social networking such as 'Second Life'. Furthermore, it aims to determine through ethnographic research how users within the online platform interact.
