    Abstract

The purpose of this report is to ascertain if there is an association between periodontal disease (PD) and the adverse pregnancy outcome (APO) pre-eclampsia (PE). A systematic review article was published on the subject in 2010 by Kunnen et al. This report considers further articles on this subject area published subsequently, plus articles sourced from alternative databases not considered by Kunnen et al. By critically analysing the literature sourced, this report intends to identify any causal relationship between PD and PE with a view to influence oral health care recommendations for pregnant patients.
