    Abstract

    Aims • To assess the effectiveness of the Nd:YAG laser for the treatment of Cervical Dentine Hypersensitivity
    To consider: -
    • Practicality
    • Cost
    • Patient and clinician safety
    • Current law and ethics
    • Role of the DHDT

    Method • A critical appraisal of current literature
    surrounding the Nd:YAG laser to determine the aims and objectives of this piece.

    Results • The Nd:YAG is an effective tool in the treatment of Dental Hypersensitivity.
    • Current GDC and Indemnity regulations state that a DHDT can use the laser in the treatment of Dentine Hypersensitivity.
    • Cost is dependent on the practice offering such treatment
    • The laser is safe provided health and safety regulations are followed

    Conclusion • The future could hold more wide-spread use of the Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of cervical dentinal hypersensitivity.
