    Abstract

“…women drive the business in M&S..” (Hinton, M. 2012, BBC News at 10. London: BBC 1)

The quotation is taken from a BBC news broadcast as recently as Tuesday 6th November 2012 and suggests that without women Marks and Spencer (M&S) would not be the company that they are today. The aim of this dissertation is to consider the different factors which led to this statement being made.
