    Abstract

This dissertation aims to analyse the individual wallpapers chosen for Strawberry Hill by Horace Walpole and Lady Frances Waldegrave which allows for an examination of social fashions, communication and culture during their relative eras of the mid-18th and mid-19th centuries.

Their individual design objectives and possible underlying reasons for the decisions they made are also considered. The principal research findings support the view that it is possible to trace and examine design decisions and influences in relation to wallpaper, which subsequently allows for social trends, communication and activities to be deliberated.
