    Abstract

The research findings highlighted that there was a lack of awareness concerning EPCs before and after the homebuyers had purchased their home. Due to the limited awareness and understanding of EPCs there were only a handful of homeowners who knew what their recommended energy efficiency improvements were and had carried them out.

The findings highlighted a negative opinion from the estate agents with their responses outlining that there is no added value in EPCs and, in addition, 70% of estate agents would like to see them discontinued. The homebuyers appeared marginally more positive with 43% stating they would like to see EPCs continued within the residential market.
