    Abstract

Currently, the biggest problem facing the travel industry is the Internet’s impact on high street travel agents. Travel agency staff are increasingly seen as being replaceable by Internet technology. A study into existing literature was carried out to establish the present situation. The author created questionnaires as a form of primary data, to discover consumers and travel agencies views and opinions on the Internet and travel agents. The results of the study have suggested that the travel agency role has changed as a result of the increasing popularity of the Internet, but has also predicted that they will not be replaced completely. The study has also revealed a number of potential approaches that travel agents may use in the future to survive in this competitive industry.
