    Abstract

A lot of regeneration has taken place in East London since the bid was won in July 2005. Consequently, it has been documented and spoken about widely throughout the United Kingdom as perhaps being the key to bringing the country closer to being recession free. This study is therefore intended to access the effects the Olympics will have on east London and in particular those residing in Newham and secondarily the probability of if the games will have a major effect on the country graduating economically. The London Borough of Newham as a surrounding borough situated close to the Olympic park development and therefore is the focal point of this research. Reasoning behind this research is because it is important that the local residents are catered for as when the games are over they are the people that will still reside in the area despite the outcome of the Paralympics. The locals must therefore be considered throughout the games, this means before during and after the games are done. Newham and surrounding boroughs have hence experienced both highs and lows from the games, even before they have begun. This including positives and negatives such as some locals being made to vacate their homes and work spaces to create space for the Olympic centre and the Olympics opening more areas for employment. This paper delves in to the lives of locals by carrying out surveys and looking at past research carried out to view the opinions, arguments and views of the locals on the games. In conclusion this study should assess the potential solutions for government officials in regards to what the locals want and an insight into fears concerning the games in reference to East London’s residents.
