    Abstract

This dissertation aims to determine property developers’ focus for sustainable homes in residential housing construction in the UK. The research contained in this dissertation determines if property developers’ attitudes vary, depending on the cost of, market for and profit to be made from sustainable homes. It examines how important the issues of climate change and sustainable developments are for the construction industry; whilst analysing the effectiveness of current green polices, as well as interpreting respondent’s expectations and intentions, in order to obtain property developers overall perception of sustainable homes. Furthermore, this research analyses the housing market sectors over the last decade, to establish if what property developers propose, correlates with what they are actually constructing. By doing this, it establishes the property developer’s real focus for sustainable homes and seeks to determine key area, which the Government needs to target, in order to encourage the implementation of sustainable developments.
