    Abstract

The true sexual homicide offenders are offenders for whom the act of homicide alone is sexually arousing. This dissertation was an attempt at locating these offenders through indepth analysis of available academic writings. The key issues encountered were lexical difficulties illustrated by loose use of terms, varying definitions and an all-over vagueness. This resulted in uncertain details. A majority of the academic literature presents facts that cannot be verified or relies on references to other, equally unverifiable, pieces of scholarly work. Despite regular insinuations that these offenders are out there, no specific information can be found. Not even the status of Jeffrey Dahmer as a true sexual homicide offender could be verified. The reason behind this curious state of affairs appears to originate in a distinct lack of critical analysis pertaining to this field of research, or perhaps a general willingness to look the other way. This lead to a conclusion being drawn that the true sexual homicide offenders are closer to a myth than reality, more grounded in fiction and culture than any academic writings.
